The Best Birthday Ever

I’ve been waiting a while for this day. Seven years to be exact. Ever since my daughter was born, I have always wanted to have her birthday party at The Chopping Block. At last, the day finally arrived a few weeks ago and it was amazing.

I pitched the idea to Delilah and immediately she was totally into it. We talked about the endless menu possibilities and narrowed it down to a very kid-friendly feast consisting of Caesar salad, individual pizzas and vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting.

Since both my husband and I are chef instructors, we taught the party with the help of my mom, aunt and sister-in-law. We actually couldn’t have done it without them because we not only had our daughter to keep busy but our three-year-old son, too. Oh man, he’s a handful. He was racing the bins of flour and sugar (that are on wheels) all over the hands-on kitchen at the Lincoln Square location, spilling popcorn on the floor and bumping into various tables and chairs which in turn made him cry. So here I am trying to make frosting with 15 seven-year-old kids while holding my crying son. Good stuff.

What’s great about the kitchen is the fact that it’s secluded from the rest of the store so we really had our own space to be as loud as we wanted to. I don’t think my ears stopped ringing until later that evening.

What pleased me the most was that Delilah’s friends were genuinely interested in cooking and were excited about it. I was also shocked that 95% of the kids ate the Caesar salad! It was such a great party that we’ll remember forever.

If you have some youngsters, think about having their party at The Chopping Block. We’ll do all the setup, teaching and cleanup so all you have to do is enjoy yourself and watch your child have their best party ever.
