When people ask me what I love about my job, I have a long list. I don’t sit behind a computer desk (anymore), I work with really great people, I get to teach people about food and I know a lot of chefs who have opened their own really fabulous restaurants: Chef Chris Pandel of the Bristol, Chef Tim Kirker of Bistro Zinc, Chef Bill Kim of Belly Shack/UrbanBelly and now Chef Rick Ortiz of Antique Taco!
Antique Taco opened their doors last Wednesday and my good friend Michele and I were there on Thursday. I thought I’d give them a day to work out the new restaurants kinks, but really it didn’t seem like they needed the extra day at all. They were already working like a well-oiled machine.
Rick and his wife Ashley have really brought their dream to life. While shopping for antiques in Mexico during their honeymoon, the name “Antique Taco” was born. There is such a nice, homey feel inside and you can purchase any of the antiques you see displayed, if you like.
All of the food has such great fresh flavor and the combinations really hit the mark. So far, my favorite dishes are the crispy fish tacos, pork carnitas tacos, guacamole and chips and the Abuelita’s Pop Tart (Mexican chocolate and Marshmallow). The menu changes with seasonal flavors, so I can’t wait to go back!
